You will find as many as 277 fake engineering colleges functioning in India, together with Delhi having 66 such institutes supplying technical and engineering courses on top of the listing.
Satya Pal Singh, the Minister of State Human Resource Development, highlighted the issue in the Lok Sabha on Monday, besides the national capital, Telangana, and West Bengal have 35 and 27 such fake technical institutes, respectively.
The fake colleges’ list also includes 23 colleges in Karnataka, 22 colleges in Uttar Pradesh, 18 colleges in Haryana, 16 schools in Maharashtra, 11 at Tamil Nadu. The cases of technology colleges running their courses without the approval of India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) have come to the notice of the authorities, mentioned Singh in a written response to Lok Sabha. The institutions also have been directed to take necessary AICTE approval; else they’ll be shut down.
What measures are being taken against these fake institutes?
Besides, the University Grants Commission is tracking this matter and also sent directions to the heads of the countries to take actions against these institutes conducting inside their jurisdiction, the ministry said. The commission has maintained a list of 24 fake universities on its official site.
